Effects of Emotional Stress

Events that capture national attention often leave a deeper impact than we realize. Whether experienced firsthand or watched from afar, moments of tension and unrest can stay with us.

As a heart surgeon, I see the effects of stress every day. This is not about politics, it is about people. When we are exposed to fear, anger, or ongoing conflict, our bodies respond. Blood pressure rises, heart rate increases, and over time, this kind of stress can contribute to real cardiovascular disease.

There is also an emotional toll, anxiety, disrupted sleep, and a sense of unease that affects how we live and how we connect with others.

We cannot always control what happens around us, but we can control how we respond. We can choose to lower the temperature, support one another, and recognize the shared humanity in every individual.

Taking care of the heart is not just about procedures or medications. It is also about compassion, understanding, and how we treat each other every day.
