This fall, I’ll attend my 50th reunion from Cheltenham High School. It’s hard to believe that much time has passed.

It has me thinking about the journey—from growing up in Cheltenham, to Muhlenberg College, Penn Medical School, my surgical training at Jefferson, 27 wonderful years at Lehigh Valley Health Network, and now seven remarkable years back home at Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital.

There is something very special about returning to care for people in the same community where you grew up. The roads are familiar. The neighborhoods are familiar. And remarkably, some of my closest friends today have been my friends since grade school and junior high.

After all these years, I’ve learned that titles, accomplishments, and milestones matter far less than the people who share the journey with you.

Family and community are everything.

There are still roads ahead and mountains to climb. But every once in a while, it’s worth looking back—not to dwell on where you’ve been, but simply to say:

Thank you. What a ride it has been. And what a blessing it continues to be.
