This 57-year-old man, with a known bicuspid aortic valve, suffered a stroke while flying home on the red-eye flight from Las Vegas. After a short stay at a local hospital, his cardiologist determined that the stroke came from calcium particles that were breaking off from his stenotic bicuspid aortic valve. The patient underwent urgent surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) at Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hopsital with a CryoLife On-X prosthetic heart valve.
