Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) in patients under 50 is considered “premature CAD” and is often associated with a strong family history and lifestyle factors like smoking, high cholesterol, obesity, lack of physical activity, and stress. Drug abuse can also be a factor, particularly with the use of cocaine and amphetamines.
Similar to CAD in older patients, symptoms may include chest pain, shortness of breath, and discomfort in the arm or jaw associated with activity or at rest. Severe fatigue is another possible symptom seen in younger patients.
