Teamwork Leads to Victory

“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.”Michael Jordan

In healthcare, we often look to the aviation industry to teach us about quality and patient safety. But, to learn how to be a high-performing, successful institution, we should look to team sports.

To win “championships,” it takes a special kind teamwork and intelligence —and it must start at the top, and transcend throughout the entire organization, at every level. Yes, we often call it the “culture” or “vision” of an organization. But, what does that mean in practical terms?

Every winning team has a leader that all the other players trust —a leader who inspires them to play above and beyond their game, to “go the distance,” unselfishly, making every play, every moment, every interaction count!

The amazing part of the “winning experience” is just how infectious it becomes throughout an organization. Suddenly, everyone “gets it” and want to be a part of it. No matter your profession, be it medicine, law, business, or academics, building teams based on inspirational leadership, and a culture of trust, is paramount to victory.
