Mitral Valve Prolapse

Mitral valve prolapse occurs when the mitral valve leaflets do not close tightly. There are a variety of causes of this problem. Mitral valve repair surgery remains the gold standard for correction of mitral valve prolapse. Recently, Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital received a 3-Star Rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons for quality outcomes in patients who require isolated mitral valve surgery.
