Dr. Chang, our Chief, Section of Thoracic Surgery at Lehigh Valley Hospital, grew up in Montreal, Canada. He went to McGill University where he studied architecture and physiology.  He came to the U.S. and entered Drexel Medical School.  He performed his General Surgery Residency at NY Med and his Cardiothoracic Fellowship at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Philadelphia Magazine and US News World Report awarded him Top Doc” 2011-2017  in Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery category!

He came to our practice with 11 years of experience, most notably as one of the nation’s top robotic thoracic surgeon.  He performed the first robotic lobectomy for lung cancer in Philadelphia in 2010. Dr. Chang has served as a Robotic Proctor and Teacher, instructing over ten surgeons in various programs across country.  Additionally, in 2012 he developed and served as the Director for a Lung Cancer Screening Program in Philadelphia - one of the first successful ones in the city.

Dr. Chang specializes in robotic minimally invasive thoracic surgery. Some of the surgeries he performs include:

  • Robotic complete endoscopic esophagectomy
  • Robotic anterior mediastinal  tumor excision (avoiding sternotomy)
  • Robotic radical  thymectomy for myasthenia gravis (for severe myasthenia gravis)

He also performs additional advanced thoracic procedures such as: 

  • Endoscopic Bronchial Ultrasound
  • Endoscopic Esophageal Ultrasound  (one of few programs in country that do simultaneous EBUS and EUS )
  • Radiosurgery SBRT fiducial placement and planning
  • Super Dimension Navigational Bronchoscopy
  • Laser ablation of endobronchial tumors using ND-Yag laser
  • Endobronchial and tracheal stenting
  • Endoesophageal stenting
  • Video Mediastinoscopy and VMLA and TEMLA
  • VATS
